Synopsis

When Ward Johannsen’s little girl Ava shifted into a werewolf, she was taken into custody by the feds and shipped off to the nearest pack, all ties between father and daughter severed. Ward burned every bridge he had discovering her location, and then almost froze to death in the Colorado mountains tracking her new pack down. And that’s just the beginning of his struggle.

Henry Dormer is an alpha werewolf and an elite black ops soldier who failed his last mission. He returns home, hoping for some time to recuperate and help settle the pack’s newest member, a little pup named Ava who can’t shift back to her human form. Instead he meets Ward, who refuses to leave his daughter without a fight. The two men are as different as night and day, but their respect for each other strikes a spark of mutual interest that quickly grows into a flame. They might find something special together—love, passion, and even a family—if they can survive trigger-happy pack guardians, violent werewolf politics, and meddling government agencies that are just as likely to get their alpha soldiers killed as bring them home safely

Review

I freaking loved this story!! The world that Cari Z. created was unique and intense and beautiful! She achieved  hooking me right from the first word!

Ward is the parent who will give up everything to see and be with his little Ava, going through even the most back channel ways to find out where the feds took her after her first shift. In a world where shifter kids are taken away from human parents to be put in a pack Ward’s journey wasn’t easy. His journey in getting his Ava to shift, fighting pack Alpha Henry to stay, and those out there that would sooner kill him and his daughter were just things he knew he had to do. I loved this guy right from the start and his unwavering in the face of all that he had to deal with, most especially Henry.

Henry gives up a lot for his pack, some things they don’t even know about and hopefully will never have to. Ava and Ward touch a part of him and because of that the dark place that holds all of the horrors the government puts him through, start to get some light to drown it out. OMG, I loved his sister too! She was stuck between her brother and husband and a pack that was unstable, but she rocked it and stood her ground whenever she needed to.

This was a great combination of light-hearted funny and intense violence that I love in my shifter books. Add on that the unique world and excellent narration and this audiobook has made it into one of my favorites. Jack Wesley honestly gave EVERY character life that made this story that much better!
